World Cup Update 7

If you've not heard of Paul the Octopus, you should have!  He is the English octopus that lives in the Aquarium Sea Life Centre in Oberhausen, Germany and can predict the future!  Where the German football team is concerned anyway...

He has so far correctly predicted wins for Germany over Australia, Ghana, England and Argentina and even the defeat against Serbia.  Last week Germans were horrified to see Paul predict a win for Spain in the semi final and, sure enough, he was right once more.

After a tight first half and many many close chances, defender Puyol headed in a blinder to send the Spanish through.  This young German team has had a great run but I don't think it's their time just yet: in two years at Euro 2012 they will be a force to reckon with.  As will be the team to win their first ever World Cup on Sunday.  The final will now be contested by the two best teams never to win the competition and will be a joy to behold!

Again my heart says Holland but I really think Spain will be able to add the World Cup to their collection of current major championships...

Some of my favourite Paul the octopus puns: ten tackles; Paul wins punters a few squid; he's quite the clairbuoyant...

  1. Hilarious! Can't believe I hadn't heard of the Octopus. I'm surprised this post came first before a report on newly-appointed Sousa and the signing he's already made! Hope you have a great summer, Joel, and congrats on the engagement!
