The latest disaster movie to hit our screens is 2012 (2009), an epic adventure about a global cataclysm, bringing an end to the world, and the heroic struggles of the survivors. It is based on the Mayan theory that the world will come to an end on 12-12-2012 and tells the story of a freak solar flare causing the earth's core to boil. This in turn causes the crust of the earth to become very unstable and unleashes catastrophe across the globe!
It's a very long film, showing obvious influences from Independance Day (1996) and The Day After Tomorrow (2004), which were also directed by Roland Emmerich, and at times could easily be replaced with scenes from these films. However, it did contain all you could ever want from a disaster movie, plus more.
